Knut Kirchhoff: Rising Private Credit Leader Driving Institutional-Grade Innovation
Knut Kirchhoff is a Principal at Blackstone Credit & Insurance (BXCI), where he originates, evaluates, executes, and monitors private and public credit investments—focusing currently on the professional services sector. After joining Blackstone in 2016, he helped grow a credit business once about $80 billion in AUM into the firm’s largest and fastest-growing unit, exceeding $400 billion.
Kirchhoff began his career in leveraged finance at Citigroup, where he developed foundational skills in underwriting and debt structuring.
Among his recent accomplishments: Kirchhoff founded and now leads Blackstone’s Professional Services credit vertical, which has deployed over $10 billion in credit commitments to consulting firms, accounting shops, and other service-oriented businesses—deployments that have expanded access to capital for companies outside traditional corporate finance channels.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he stepped up to lead underwriting on distressed-sector financings—such as cruise-line debt—which proved to be major successful transactions for the firm. Beyond deal work, Kirchhoff is heavily involved in recruiting and mentoring analysts and associates for Blackstone’s credit platform, supporting the next generation of credit professionals.
Knut Kirchhoff is being honored with the Connect Money Next Generation Alternative Investment Award because he embodies what the next wave of alternative lenders should be: bold yet disciplined, opportunistic yet responsible. His leadership in expanding credit access to under-served sectors, his successful navigation of macro stress events, and his commitment to developing talent all speak to a broader mission: building long-term value for investors—and resilience for borrowers and communities.
