Jennifer Marques: A Leader in Structured Credit Innovation
Jennifer Marques serves as Managing Director and Head of Strategy and Structuring for the Performing Credit/Structured Credit platform at Oaktree Capital Management, where she is responsible for the strategic architecture and operational execution of the firm’s asset-backed finance (ABF) business.
Before rising to this role, Marques led Oaktree’s Global Tax Structuring team, overseeing fund and corporate tax structuring worldwide. Prior to joining Oaktree in 2017, she practiced as a tax attorney at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP and served as a tax adviser to the merchant banking and special situations groups at Goldman Sachs — experience that underpins her deep technical knowledge of complex credit structures.
Under her leadership, Oaktree’s ABF platform has gained relevance amid shifting market dynamics, including a growing need for non-bank capital as traditional lenders retrench. Marques has spoken publicly — most recently in 2025 — about how asset-backed finance is evolving and why it offers institutional-quality returns with diversified cash-flow profiles, helping investors navigate uncertainty in corporate lending and credit markets.
Marques also co-chairs Oaktree’s Women’s Leadership Council, demonstrating her commitment to fostering inclusive leadership and mentorship in alternative investing.
She is being honored with the Connect Money Next Generation Alternative Investment Award for her unique combination of technical expertise, strategic foresight, and commitment to building a robust, diversified credit platform. Her work not only advances creative credit solutions for institutional investors, but also reinforces structural integrity, transparency, and operational excellence—qualities that signal the future direction of the alternative-investment industry.
