Laufer Targets AI-Enabled Software for High-Stakes Industries
Edison Partners principal focuses on software, digital health and fintech platforms
Ben Laufer, a principal and investment committee member at Edison Partners, invests in software, digital health and fintech companies, with a particular focus on AI-enabled technology embedded in regulated, mission-critical operations and critical infrastructure.
His thesis centers on platforms that become difficult to displace by embedding deeply into the workflows of industries where the cost of failure is high.
At Edison, Laufer has led or co-led more than $100 million in investments and serves on the boards of several portfolio companies, working with executive teams on organic growth, add-on acquisitions and operational improvements. He also built and leads Edison’s Corporate Development Center of Excellence, which helps portfolio companies prepare for exits, pursue add-on M&A and form strategic partnerships. His experience includes complex special situation financings and restructurings.
Over his career, Laufer has worked on transaction teams responsible for more than $200 billion in M&A, IPO and financing activity, including roles as a director at PeakEquity Partners, an operating executive at MRI Software, and in institutional investment management, investment banking and corporate law.
Earlier, he co-founded The Garex Group, which advised entrepreneur-led software businesses on M&A and operations, and Talemon Advisors, a talent management agency that helped athletes and entertainers monetize their brands.
A former California state chess champion, Laufer is also a professional trumpet player who has performed with symphony orchestras in more than 20 countries.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in science, technology and society from Stanford University and an MBA in finance and management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
