Next Generation: Wealth Management Profile – KJ Dykema

5th in a profile series of next gen wealth managers

Connect Money presents our inaugural Next Gen Wealth Management series. Throughout the past several months, we asked professionals in the wealth management industry to nominate those who have made an impact both in and out of the office, whether through efforts to reshape the organization or community outreach.

Today, we feature KJ Dykema, founder of Family Retirement, LLC, a Seattle, WA-based independent registered investment advisory firm.

What are the nominee’s job duties/role?

Wealth Manager – financial planning, portfolio management, tax planning, and real estate as a means of income.

What milestones, in and out of the organization, has the nominee achieved?

Last year KJ was the winner of the under-40 wealth manager in Fortune magazine. She’s on the BOD for Launch a preschool and after school care organization that serves children furthest from equitable access to education. She’s presented at a career fair for middle schoolers in a Title I to educate them on the importance of financial education.

In what areas of work has the nominee exceeded expectations?

KJ has provided comprehensive plans that include emotional roadblocks during retirement and along the lifestyle path. She eagerly works with employers to educate employees about their retirement accounts and makes it easy to understand videos for educators so they can focus on their work as teachers.

How has the nominee reshaped the organization?

KJ has created a clear path to how she’d like to educate Millennials and Gen Z to ensure they are set up for a successful future.

What role (if any) does the nominee play in the community?

KJ is a childcare advocate, local business owner, and school appreciation coordinator.

What is one aspect outside the organization that we should know about the nominee?

KJ was the oldest of seven children and growing up in that dynamic shaped her resilience, tenacity, and compassion for her community.
