Brookfield, The Nuclear Company Launch Reactor Development JV
Brookfield and The Nuclear Company have announced plans to form a joint venture to develop nuclear power plants in the U.S., signaling renewed private sector momentum in next-generation baseload energy infrastructure.
The venture will focus exclusively on deploying Westinghouse Electric Company reactor designs, including the AP1000 and AP300, and will provide project management, licensing support and oversight across engineering, procurement and construction.
Its first assignment will be to conduct due diligence on two partially completed AP1000 reactors at the V.C. Summer site near Jenkinsville, South Carolina, with support from state-owned utility Santee Cooper.
“By combining our global infrastructure development capabilities with nuclear project delivery expertise, we believe this platform has the potential to accelerate the American nuclear resurgence,” said Wyatt Hartley.
“We know what it takes to deliver nuclear,” added Joe Klecha. “What’s been missing is a model that brings together the people, the capabilities, and the capital to do it at speed and scale.”
The initiative comes amid a broader resurgence in nuclear investment as governments and private capital seek reliable, low-carbon power sources to support data center growth and electrification trends.
The Nuclear Company, launched in 2023 with backing from firms including CIV and True Ventures, joins a growing field of infrastructure-focused players targeting nuclear assets. In early April, Bridgepoint Group’s infrastructure arm, Energy Capital Partners, agreed to buy EnergySolutions from TriArtisan Capital Advisors.
