
Apollo Co-founder Josh Harris Starts New Firm with $5B
Josh Harris, co-founder of private equity titan Apollo Global Management Inc., is launching a new firm, 26North Partners LP – an alternative asset manager that invests across asset classes – with an initial $5 billion investment. 26North Partners will focus on private equity, credit and insurance solutions.
Harris is joined by a veteran team of executives from top private market firms. Mark Weinberg, who led US private equity at Brookfield Asset Management will join 26North next year to lead its private equity platform. Brendan McGovern, former head of Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s private credit group, will lead 26North’s direct lending platform.
Other team members include former Centerbridge and Goldman Sachs partner Lance West, former Apollo Global Management Managing Director Evan Zemsky, former Blackstone Managing Director Tina Raja and former Security Benefit Life executive Cole Charnas.
26North has also created a joint venture with Braven Management, led by the former head of venture group Innovation Capital at BlackRock Inc. William Abecassis, to focus on transformational technology.
