EP Wealth Adds $900M Opes Wealth Team in Northern California Push
EP Wealth Advisors has acquired Opes Wealth Management, a Menlo Park-based firm managing more than $900 million in assets, adding eight team members to EP Wealth’s growing Northern California presence.
Founded in 2005 by Mark Duvall, Opes was built around integrating real estate and wealth management expertise, drawing on Duvall’s background in West Coast real estate development. Erin Whalen later joined the firm and expanded its investment management and financial planning capabilities; the team has built a particular niche serving technology professionals, including Apple and Google employees, throughout Silicon Valley.
Duvall and Whalen will join EP Wealth as regional directors. The deal marks EP Wealth’s fifth partnership of 2026, following recent acquisitions of Thompson Wealth Management ($300 million), LongView Asset Management ($390 million), and Capital Insight Partners ($730 million) earlier in the year. Financial and legal terms were not disclosed.
“From the beginning, Opes has been built around the belief that clients are best served through integrated advice. As we considered the next chapter for our firm, it was important to find a partner that shared that philosophy and commitment to putting clients first,” said Mark Duvall, founder, Opes Wealth Management.
EP Wealth has maintained a presence in Northern California since 2013 and has drawn institutional backing to fund its expansion, including a minority investment from Ares Management in October 2025 alongside existing investors Berkshire Partners and Wealth Partners Capital Group.
Alaris Acquisitions advised Opes on the transaction. Torrance, California-based EP Wealth manages more than $44.1 billion in assets as of March 31, 2026.
