Volta Emerges From Stealth With $10B AI Infrastructure Partnership
Volta has emerged from stealth with plans to build large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure backed by institutional capital, beginning with a $10 billion strategic partnership to develop an AI factory in Norway.
The vertically integrated platform and Nvidia Cloud Partner was founded by CEO Ricard Boada and Chief Corporate Development Officer Sofia Gumuzio. Volta combines infrastructure financing, powered land, data centers, computing hardware, software and operations.
The company aims to provide dedicated AI capacity to frontier AI laboratories, AI-native companies and enterprises that may lack the balance sheets needed to fund their own infrastructure.
“We founded Volta because compute should be financed, developed and commercialized with the principles and scale of infrastructure,” Boada said.
Volta’s first project is a 133-megawatt deployment being developed in Norway with Bitdeer under a $10 billion partnership with an unidentified AI laboratory. The facility will use Nvidia Vera Rubin systems.
The project is part of a development pipeline exceeding 1 gigawatt of near-term power capacity across North America and Europe. Volta plans to use Nvidia’s DSX platform and is targeting multiple gigawatts of deployed capacity by 2030.
Volta also established an AI infrastructure program with Azora, an asset manager overseeing more than $20 billion, to provide $5 billion of financing for future AI factories.
The company completed seed and Series A financing rounds that valued it at $2.4 billion. Investors included Azora, Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter, Nvidia, Michael Dell’s family office and Matter Venture Partners.
Volta also acquired Genesis Cloud’s technology earlier this year, adding software for public AI cloud services and bare-metal cluster management to its platform.
