Vantage, Nebius Add AI Compute Capacity in South Wales

Vantage Data Centers and Nebius have agreed to deploy high-density, NVIDIA-powered infrastructure at Vantage’s Newport, Wales, campus, adding domestic computing capacity as the United Kingdom seeks to expand its artificial intelligence economy.

The project represents the first announced commercial capacity commitment in the South Wales AI Growth Zone, according to the companies.

Nebius will lease capacity at Vantage’s CWL1 campus for AI model training, inference, agentic AI and enterprise workloads. The infrastructure will serve businesses, researchers, startups and public-sector organizations.

The deployment forms part of Nebius’ broader U.K. expansion. In June, the AI cloud company announced approximately £1.7 billion, or $2.3 billion, of committed capacity development across four British locations. Those sites are expected to provide 65 megawatts when fully operational in 2027.

“Vantage’s Newport campus gives us a strong foundation to expand access to NVIDIA-powered AI infrastructure in the U.K. and support customers building the next generation of AI applications,” said Gary Tierney, Nebius’ general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Operating since 2010, CWL1 is one of Europe’s largest data center campuses. Its electricity use is matched with certified renewable energy, while newer facilities use closed-loop cooling systems designed to minimize operational water consumption.

The campus is part of Vantage’s multibillion-pound South Wales investment plan. The company expects to deliver more than 1 gigawatt of AI-ready capacity across Newport, Bridgend and Bro Tathan.

The U.K. designated South Wales as an AI Growth Zone because of the region’s available power, fiber connections to London, industrial base and semiconductor sector. The designation is intended to accelerate planning and infrastructure development.

“Nebius is scaling AI cloud infrastructure in the U.K. at a time when demand for domestic compute capacity continues to accelerate,” said David Howson, Vantage’s president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
