Stevens Capital Partners Tops $800M AUM, Acquires Dallas CPA Practice
Stevens Capital Partners has surpassed $800 million in assets under management less than six years after its founding, pairing rapid organic growth with the acquisition of a Dallas-based CPA tax practice as it expands its integrated wealth management platform.
The registered investment advisor, founded in November 2020, now serves clients in more than 40 states, with major concentrations in Nebraska and New York. Its acquisition adds more than 300 tax clients, including over 100 businesses across 15 states, and brings a tax practice with more than 30 years of experience into the firm.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer David Stevens told Connect Money that client referrals and relationships with professional partners have been central to growth. “We believe that growth reflects the trust our clients place in us and their willingness to introduce Stevens Capital Partners to friends, family members, business owners, and other people in their networks,” Stevens said.
The firm’s assets under management rose to $804.7 million as of July 31, from $443 million a year earlier. New clients accounted for $203.6 million, or 56.3%, of the increase, Stevens said. Existing clients added $95.6 million, or 26.4%, while market appreciation represented $62.5 million, or 17.3%.
The Omaha, Nebraska-based firm advises entrepreneurs, executives, business owners and multigenerational families on investment management, tax and estate planning, business exits and philanthropy.
The CPA acquisition is intended to make that advice more coordinated, particularly for clients with complex personal and business finances. The transaction was a targeted opportunity, Stevens added, but tax-practice acquisitions may become part of the firm’s broader growth strategy. “We also see it as an important part of our broader growth strategy moving forward,” he said.
Addressing business owners preparing for liquidity events, Stevens highlighted a common industry blind spot regarding business exits and equity returns.
“Most business owners have the majority of their net worth tied up in their business, yet they often don’t have a clear understanding of the true, after-tax return they’re earning on their capital,” Stevens explained.
“A successful exit is not just about getting a high valuation for the business. It is about understanding what the owner actually needs to net from the sale, after taxes and transaction costs, to close that wealth gap and preserve the lifestyle the business has provided.”
