
Starwood Launches New Strategy Focused on Diverse and Women-Owned Real Estate Managers
Barry Sternlicht’s real estate-focused Starwood Capital Group has launched a new strategy, Starwood Impact Investors, that provides diverse and women-owned real estate managers access to capital. The funds for the new strategy will come from the firm’s existing investment vehicles and made across asset types.
“This initiative is a reflection of our commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) values and our desire to make a positive impact on our community. It also aligns with our ongoing objective to promote diversity within our industry,” said Barry Sternlicht, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital.
The new strategy will be led by managing director Bakari Adams.
As a dominant force in the commercial real estate business, Starwood manages Starwood Property Trust, the largest commercial mortgage REIT in the US, which has deployed more than $91 billion and manages a debt and equity book of $27 billion.
Since its inception in 1991 Starwood has raised more than $70 billion and oversees approximately $120 billion in assets.
