Pocket Storage Expands London Footprint With Railway Arch Conversion
Pocket Storage, in partnership with global real estate investment and asset management firm Forum Partners, has announced a 25,000-square-foot self-storage facility in London Bridge, expanding its strategy of serving densely populated urban markets.
The technology-enabled facility will provide approximately 385 units in two phases. Units will range from 10 to 1,000 square feet, targeting small and midsize businesses and residents in high-density developments where space is limited.
The project repurposes underused railway arches, bringing self-storage space into a central London commercial and residential hub. Pocket Storage, a U.K.-based vertically integrated property owner and operator, is leasing the site from The Arch Company.
“Central London continues to experience a structural shortage of well-located self-storage,” said Max Wilson, co-founder of Pocket Storage. “By repurposing underutilized railway arches in London Bridge, we’re bringing high-quality, technology-enabled storage directly into one of the capital’s busiest commercial and residential hubs.”
The development marks an expansion of Pocket Storage’s ultra-urban strategy, which focuses on providing storage in high-density locations. The range of unit sizes is designed to accommodate both household and business needs.
The Arch Company, described in the announcement as the U.K.’s largest landlord to small businesses, highlighted the adaptability of railway arches for commercial uses.
“We’re delighted to welcome Pocket Storage to London Bridge and their new facility is a great example of how railway arches can provide flexible, adaptable space for London’s makers, doers and entrepreneurs,” said Adam Hanline, head of leasing at The Arch Company.
