Mubadala Energy Launches into US Upstream Gas, LNG Sector with Kimmeridge
Mubadala Energy, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Company, announced its entry into the U.S. upstream gas and LNG market through a significant partnership with Kimmeridge Energy Management Company, LLC.
The deal involves Mubadala Energy acquiring a 24.1% equity stake in Kimmeridge’s SoTex HoldCo LLC, a holding company that owns Kimmeridge Texas Gas (KTG) and Co. This marks Mubadala Energy’s first major investment in the U.S.
The transaction value was not disclosed, though it follows a UAE pledge of $1.4 trillion in U.S. investments over a decade, announced after a March Trump-Sheikh Tahnoon meeting, according to reports. Mubadala’s investment supports Commonwealth LNG’s path to final investment decision (FID), per Kimmeridge’s managing partner Ben Dell.
Kimmeridge will retain operational control. The deal leverages the company’s scalable upstream gas and LNG business to tap into U.S. export markets.
