Monarch Closes $4.7B Opportunistic Credit, Real Estate Fund

Monarch Alternative Capital held the final close of its sixth closed-end fund, amassing over $4.7 billion and far exceeding its initial target of $3.5 billion. The fund surpassed its 2020 predecessor fund, which raised $3 billion focused on distressed and opportunistic credit investments.

The fund’s strategy is designed to capitalize on complexity and dislocation across various areas of opportunistic credit and real estate, including corporate loans and bonds, capital solution investments, real estate lending, structured credit and other sectors.

The fund has already deployed over $3.5 billion and continues to identify attractive investment opportunities. Monarch attributes this active deployment to a variety of factors, such as the current market environment’s complex restructuring processes, ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty, and elevated interest rates.

“The current landscape presents immense opportunities, and Monarch’s expertise in sourcing compelling investments and unlocking value in complex situations positions us to achieve our investment objectives for MCP VI,” said Stacey Maman, CSO and global head of client partnerships at Monarch.

Monarch manages more than $15 billion in assets. In March, the firm increased its corporate lending and real estate structured credit operations with two new hires, followed by two more in May in investor relations and business development, respectively.
