MainePERS Commits $280M to Meridiam Infrastructure Fund
The Maine Public Employees Retirement System committed $280 million to a Meridiam Infrastructure Partners fund targeting long-term contracted projects in North America, expanding its infrastructure investments within an above-target real assets allocation.
Initial capital was deployed in September, according to materials presented at the pension’s October meeting. The commitment went to Meridiam Infrastructure Core Infrastructure Fund, which follows a greenfield-focused build-to-core strategy.
The $23 billion pension system has approximately $5.4 billion invested in real assets across 39 managers, more managers than in any other alternative investment category. Real assets represent approximately 23.5% of total assets, exceeding the pension’s target allocation.
Infrastructure accounts for $2.3 billion, or roughly 43%, of the real assets portfolio. The broader allocation also includes real estate and special opportunities.
The latest commitment extends an existing relationship with Meridiam. MainePERS previously committed a combined $421 million to other funds managed by the firm.
Earlier this year, MainePERS allocated $300 million to Brookfield Super-Core Infrastructure Partners. Including the new Meridiam commitment, the pension has placed $580 million in infrastructure strategies during 2026.
