MAI Capital Management Adds $366M Maryland RIA

MAI Capital Management has acquired a Maryland-based registered investment advisor firm that manages $366 million in total assets.

Ellicott City, MD-based Court Place Advisors was founded in 1998 by principal and CCO Jack Santry. The firm was also co-founded by Robert Wieder. In addition to Court Place, Wieder is the owner of Silverline Management, a real estate company.

The firm, which joined MAI Capital on November 14, offers investment management, financial planning, retirement plans, and tax planning to high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses.

MAI’s addition marks the firm’s 18th transaction, following the acquisition of Fort Myers, FL-based Liberty Private Client, which manages roughly $245 million in client assets.

As part of the acquisition, Court Place will assume MAI Capital’s branding and will receive its infrastructure, which includes HR, operations, and marketing resources.

All Court Place employees, including Santry, will join MAI. Following the acquisition, Santry will take on the role of senior wealth advisor and managing director, MAI said.

“This partnership allows us to focus on what we do best—serving our clients—while leveraging the operational resources and infrastructure of MAI’s national platform,” Santry said. “By joining MAI, we help ensure our clients receive the personalized attention they deserve, increase our potential to grow our reach and create a foundation of long-term stability for our advisors and those we serve.

MAI Capital completed its acquisition of Los Angeles-based Evoke Advisors on October 31, which was announced in August. The acquisition adds about 100 employees to MAI’s roster.

The firm also announced a reorganization of its employees. Rick Buoncore will remain as CEO and chairman, Evoke Advisors’ co-founder and managing partner David Hou will serve as managing partner for Evoke’s Ultra-High Net Worth division, Jane Eagle will serve as managing partner for Evoke Operations, and Jay Sanders will serve as managing partner for family office and tax services.
