iCapital Expands Liquidity Access with Tangible Markets Investment

ICapital, an alternative investment firm, has revealed its strategic partnership with Tangible Markets to launch a marketplace for investors and financial advisors to control secondary market opportunities.

The partnership would enable advisors to gain access to various trading options, including buying and selling secondary stakes in credit, real assets, hedge funds, and private equity. Advisors would also be able to provide “scalable” liquidity solutions for their clients that have alternative investment funds.

Per the collaboration, Tangible will be able to underwrite, exchange, and close transactions between $75,000 to over $250 million in valuation, and it aims to “enhance price discovery, streamline transactions, and connect a large buyer-seller network,” the company said.

The marketplace capabilities are expected to launch on iCapital’s platform by the end of the year. Both firms did not disclose the terms of the deal.

“Lack of liquidity has long been a friction point for broader allocations to alternative investments,” Lawrence Calcano, CEO and chairman of iCapital, said. “By building a robust secondary market, we offer clients greater transparency and the flexibility to efficiently rebalance portfolios without waiting for a natural liquidity event—enabling strategic allocation adjustments while maintaining exposure to long-term, value-generating assets.”

This comes as the industry aims to address the lack of liquidity options for alternative investment fund investors. While global alternative assets are projected to increase from $16.8 trillion to $29.2 trillion by 2029, there is a growing interest from advisors who are seeking more “flexible” liquidity solutions for their clients’ assets.

Through the partnership, sellers will gain access to personalized auctions, real-time pricing data, and various analytics to help them draw out value from illiquid assets across closed-ended and semi-liquid funds. While buyers will have access to “high-quality” alternative investments with faster deployment and more diverse portfolios.

Through recent collaborations, iCapital has been amplifying its private market options across wealth management, as advisors and RIAs are looking to expand on traditional and alternative investments through portfolio constructions.

In May, iCapital acquired Citigroup’s global alternatives platform, which is the advisor to Citi Wealth’s global alternative investment fund platform. iCapital will manage and operate the fund platform, while Citi Wealth retains its role as the distributor and continues to provide clients with strategic guidance on incorporating alternative investments into diversified portfolios.
