Forester Capital Inks Partnership with Long/Short Financials Fund Triveni

Triveni Capital Investments, a newly launched long/short equity hedge fund run by ex-Point 72 and D.E. Shaw portfolio manager Sahul Sharma, has agreed to a strategic partnership with alternative investment platform and seeder Forester Capital.

Based in Stamford, CT, Triveni targets a variety of sub-industries, regions, frameworks, and themes in its pursuit of alpha through trading mispricings in the financials and other adjacent sectors.

Sharma’s team uses deep fundamental research to develop convictions around six key criteria: multiples, earnings, event, variant perception, quantification and management. The US will be a core area of focus, with additional exposure to India, Europe and other international markets.

“His (Sharma) ability to invest both long and short in this space enables him to take advantage of the dispersion in financials, creating an opportunity to generate strong risk-adjusted returns for investors,” said Trent Carmichael, founder and managing principal of Forester Capital.

Sharma, who has more than 20 years of investment experience, was a portfolio manager at Point 72 who specialized in global financials and used a low net exposure strategy before starting Triveni. Prior to that, he worked as a portfolio manager at D.E. Shaw for five years.

Forester Capital, a $1.1 billion alternative investment platform, was founded in 1999 and focuses on making early-stage investments in the alternative asset management industry. With the latest investment in Triveni Capital, Forester has now made 16 strategic manager investments totaling roughly $815 million.
