FA Duo Departs J.P. Morgan to Form $18.6B Firm
Two financial advisors formerly affiliated with J.P. Morgan have launched a registered investment advisory firm, Latigo Peak Partners.
Palm Beach Gardens, FL-based firm Latigo Peak, founded by Phil Scott and Jim Atwood, manages roughly $18.6 billion in total client assets and includes a team of 48 financial professionals.
The firm provides wealth and estate planning, philanthropic strategies, and education for future generations. Also, the firm focuses on public equity investing and fundamental investment judgment.
The firm has co-operational hubs in Boston and Bellevue, Washington, and a field office in Los Angeles.
Latigo Peak has 10 employees who provide investment advisory services, according to their Form ADV. The advisors self-funded the firm, which is also founder-owned.
Latigo Peak operates as a multicustodial firm, with Charles Schwab and BNY Pershing as their custodians. Fusion Financial Partners served as a strategic advisor for the design of the firm’s launch.
“The value of independence is the ability to think independently,” said Atwood. “Our job is to understand what each client and family is trying to accomplish, do the work, form a point of view and give them candid advice we genuinely believe is right.”
At J.P. Morgan, Scott and Atwood led two wealth management practices over the last six years, where they grew their combined assets from $34 million to over $130 million.
Scott and Atwood started their careers at Merrill Lynch, per their BrokerCheck profiles.
The pair left Merrill for First Republic and joined J.P. Morgan through its acquisition of First Republic in 2023, according to BrokerCheck.
