Event-Driven Manager Taconic Names Nate Kempner Co-CIO
Taconic Capital Advisors, an $11 billion, New York- and London-based hedge fund focused on event-driven, multi strategy investments, has named Nate Kempner, a principal and co-chair of the firm’s Investment Committee, as co-CIO, alongside Taconic’s co-founder, Frank Brosens.
Kempner joined the firm in 2010 and has served as a principal on the North American credit team since 2021.
The move follows Christopher DeLong’s decision to retire from his role as principal and CIO at the end of the year.
DeLong has been a principal of the firm since its launch, later serving as a portfolio manager from 2008 to 2012, then CIO from 2013. More recently, he has focused on managing liquidity and risk management, as well as overseeing a small higher volatility equity-oriented portfolio, which he will continue to manage outside of Taconic.
Established in 1999 by Brosens and Ken Brody, both ex-Goldman Sachs partners, Taconic now has about $7 billion in assets under management. The firm manages a range of event driven strategies spanning opportunistic credit, merger arbitrage, catalyst-driven equities and real estate, as well as a co-investment platform.
Brosens and Kempner will have oversight for sizing individual positions and capital allocation across Taconic’s investment portfolios. Brosens will also continue to serve as risk manager and chair of the Risk Committee.
