Envestnet, State Street Expand Model Portfolios, Direct Indexing Offerings
Envestnet, in collaboration with State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), announced an expansion of direct indexing capabilities on its Unified Managed Account (UMA) platform. This initiative aims to make personalized investment strategies more accessible to registered investment advisors (RIAs) by offering tailored portfolios with tax-aware features.
The new direct indexing offering includes over 100 customization options, allowing advisors to align portfolios with clients’ specific goals, values, and tax needs. It targets accounts with a minimum investment of $100,000 and features two initial strategies: the SSGA Global Equity Direct Index Portfolio and the SSGA US Large Cap Quality Direct Index Portfolio.
These portfolios, developed in partnership with Envestnet’s in-house QRG Capital Management, integrate tax overlay services to enhance efficiency without compromising scalability. Dana D’Auria, Envestnet’s group president of solutions and co-CIO, emphasized that this enables advisors to deliver “truly bespoke solutions” at scale.
This move builds on Envestnet’s prior direct indexing efforts, including a March 2025 launch of a “first-of-its-kind” UMA-based direct indexing solution in Canada. With SSGA’s $3.5 trillion in assets under management and Envestnet’s $6.5 trillion platform serving 108,000 advisors, the partnership taps into growing demand for personalization.
Cerulli Associates projects direct indexing assets to grow at a 12.3% CAGR through 2026. The initiative reflects a broader trend of RIAs seeking scalable, tax-efficient tools amid a record first quarter for RIA M&A activity.
