Entertainment, Media-Focused Shamrock Capital Raises $600M for Third Fund
Los Angeles-based private equity firm Shamrock Capital Advisors raised $600 million, surpassing its $500 million hard cap, for its third fund – Shamrock Capital Content Fund III – aimed at acquiring film, television, music, video games and sports rights.
The firm, which long ago severed ties with the Disney family, said its latest fund is more than double the size of its first such vehicle, which closed on about $250 million in 2016.
Shamrock’s Content Strategy, which was launched with the $196 million Shamrock Capital Debt Opportunities Fund in 2020 to originate loan structures to content and media rights owners, has reached $2 billion in assets under management.
Shamrock, which now manages about $4.4 billion in assets, was in the spotlight in 2020 when it bought Taylor Swift’s Big Machine catalog from Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings.
Kirkland & Ellis LLP served as legal advisor for Shamrock and no placement agent was used for the fundraise.
