CIP to Acquire Ørsted’s European Onshore Portfolio in Major Renewables Push
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has agreed to acquire Ørsted’s European onshore business through its fifth flagship fund, Copenhagen Infrastructure V (CI V), significantly expanding its renewables footprint across Ireland, the UK, Germany, and Spain.
The transaction includes 578 MW of operational capacity and 248 MW under construction, along with a multi-gigawatt development pipeline spanning onshore wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). In total, the portfolio represents more than 800 MW in operation and construction.
“The combined onshore wind, solar, and BESS portfolio complements our existing project portfolio and gives us the scale to further accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and strengthen Europe’s energy independence while delivering strong, risk-adjusted returns to our investors,” said Mads Skovgaard-Andersen, CIO and partner at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
CI V reached final close in March 2025, surpassing its €12 billion ($14 billion) target. The fund invests across a broad range of energy infrastructure technologies in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, and has a total potential commitment of approximately €24 billion ($27 billion), including co-investments and follow-on capital.
Following the expected closing in the second quarter of 2026, the acquired onshore platform will operate as a stand-alone business under a new company name and brand.
