Ciena to Acquire Nubis Communications for $270M to Boost AI-Driven Data Center Connectivity
Ciena announced it will acquire Nubis Communications in an all-cash transaction valued at $270 million, with the deal expected to close during the company’s fiscal fourth quarter of 2025. As part of the transaction, Ciena will also establish employee retention arrangements to ensure continuity and integration of Nubis’ technical team.
The acquisition strengthens Ciena’s position in high-speed interconnects by enhancing its ability to deliver scalable, high-performance connectivity inside data centers. This is increasingly critical as AI-related traffic surges, requiring greater scale-up and scale-out capacity and density. The deal also brings more than 50 engineers with deep expertise and strong alignment with Ciena’s R&D culture, further advancing innovation in optical and data center interconnect solutions.
David Rothenstein, Ciena’s Chief Strategy Officer, said the move is central to addressing rising AI infrastructure demands: “The acquisition of Nubis represents a significant step forward in Ciena’s strategy to address the rapidly growing demand for scalable, high-performance connectivity inside the data center.”
Nubis CEO Dan Harding emphasized the collaborative potential: “Together, we will advance Ciena’s data center strategy by delivering reliable, high-quality, and high-performance interconnect solutions to support the next generation of AI workloads.”
