Chicago Teachers Deploys $30M to Real Estate Portfolio

The Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund (CTPF) has allocated $30 million to Long Wharf Real Estate Partners VII, a real estate fund managed by Long Wharf Capital, focused on value-add strategies in certain regions within the United States.

The fund’s goal is to raise $500 million and will invest in office, industrial, multifamily, and retail assets that require repositioning, re-leasing, or operational improvements. The fund intends to utilize the capital for 25 to 35 investments ranging from $10 million to $25 million.

CTPF’s $11.9 billion in assets under management includes 11.3% in real estate, which is higher than the pension fund’s planned allocation of 9%.

Infrastructure investments account for around 2.2% of the pension fund’s portfolio, which is somewhat higher than the 2% aim. CTPF’s infrastructure investments delivered a net return of 9.39% for the fiscal year, far exceeding the -1.29% benchmark.
