Cetera Financial Scores $200M Cunningham Financial Group from Ameriprise Financial
Cetera Financial Group has added an Alabama-based wealth management firm, which oversees about $200 million in assets under administration, adding the firm to its registered investment advisory model.
Birmingham-based Cunningham Financial Group is led by financial advisor and managing partner Jonathan Cunningham. Cunningham is also joined by financial advisors Brian Walsh and Josh Little, who have all joined Cetera’s Summit Financial Networks from Ameriprise Financial.
Cunningham Financial Group provides investment management, financial planning, portfolio management, and tax-related services for high-net-worth clients.
“Our team is relatively young, and we’re building this practice for decades to come,” Cunningham said. “We’re committed to serving our existing clients with the same level of attention and care they expect, while also expanding thoughtfully through referrals and potential acquisitions of like-minded practices.”
Cunningham says he moved his firm from Ameriprise Financial to Cetera because of the firm’s “desire to maintain true independence,” and wanting to gain broader access to Cetera’s services, platform, and scale.
Cunningham also stated that his firm evaluated a “comprehensive” search before ultimately deciding on Cetera and further said that Cetera’s “advisor-first culture, service model, and growth orientation” drew them to the firm.
“We evaluated a number of options and wanted a partner that aligned with our long-term vision,” Cunningham said. “Meeting the Summit Financial leadership team and seeing how focused they are on supporting advisors and helping them grow made the decision clear for us.”
In February, Cetera added Texas-based Plains Wealth Management, which oversees about $400 million in assets under management, to its employee-based RIA, The Retirement Planning Group.
Cetera Financial Group manages $640 billion in assets under administration and $294 billion in assets under management, the firm said.
