CBRE IM Acquires ClearGen to Expand Distributed Energy Platform

CBRE Investment Management, on behalf of its managed funds, has acquired ClearGen Holdings LLC, a provider of capital solutions for distributed energy projects. Founded in 2020, ClearGen has developed a portfolio of more than 250 contracted energy infrastructure projects spanning 14 states, supporting municipalities, businesses, and developers with cost savings, emissions reductions, and resiliency.

ClearGen’s leadership team will remain in place and plans to expand from its Charlotte, N.C., headquarters to capitalize on the growing distributed energy opportunity. “Our mission to provide reliable capital for sustainable solutions hasn’t changed, but the opportunity to grow it has,” said Rob Howard, CEO of ClearGen.

CBRE described the investment as a continuation of its focus on “infrastructure 2.0” assets—projects with stable contracted revenues benefiting from long-term digitalization and decarbonization tailwinds.

Marathon Capital advised ClearGen on the transaction.
