Carlyle Names Redett CFO, Head of Corporate Strategy
Global private equity firm Carlyle Group announced that CFO Curt Buser will retire at the end of the year after holding the position since 2014. John Redett, who has most recently served as head of global financial services, will take over as CFO and head of corporate strategy on October 1.
Buser will step down at the end of September to become a senior advisor, and “work to ensure a smooth and successful transition” until his retirement.
The promotion marks the first major appointment under Harvey Schwartz, a former Goldman Sachs executive who became CEO in February, replacing co-founder William Conway, who was interim CEO since August 2022 when former CEO Kewsong Lee abruptly stepped down.
“He (John) is an industry veteran with an impressive track record of successfully implementing growth strategies at financial services firms, and I am confident he is the right leader to work closely with me to further scale the firm and deliver for all our stakeholders,” said Schwartz.
Redett joined Carlyle in 2007 as an investor on the global financial services team. He has served as the head of global financial services since 2020 and was the co-head of global financial services from 2016 to 2020. Prior to joining Carlyle, he worked at Goldman Sachs from 2005 to 2007, and JPMorgan from 2000 to 2005.
Carlyle also announced that Jim Burr will become head of global financial services, effective October 1. Burr is a 27-year veteran of the financial services industry and a senior member of Carlyle’s Financial Services team.
