
CalPERS Pumps $1.25B into Real Assets
The $463 billion California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has invested $1.25 billion in its real assets program, according to recently released information.
The investments are infrastructure strategies.
The pension fund located in Sacramento committed $500 million to the DB SAF C Strategic Partners fund and $750 million to Brookfield Infrastructure Fund V.
The DB SAF C Strategic Partners fund is a digital infrastructure strategy managed by Digital Bridge Group.
Brookfield Infrastructure Fund V had accumulated more than $20 billion by the end of 2022, but it is targeting up to $25 billion in assets. The fund focuses on transportation, renewable energy, utilities, data, and energy assets/platform companies.
The asset class accounts for more than $70 billion, or more than 15% of CalPERS’ assets. According to fund reports, real assets fell 4% in the first quarter, but remained positive year on year, rising 3.9%.
