Brookfield Hauls Record $30B for 5th Infrastructure Fund
Brookfield Asset Management has amassed $30 billion in investor commitments for its flagship global infrastructure equity fund, Brookfield Infrastructure Fund V, which includes $28 billion for the fund and approximately $2 billion in related co-investment vehicles.
The fund is the world’s largest closed-ended private infrastructure fund, and the largest fund ever raised by the $850 billion Canadian alternative assets manager.
Brookfield intends to use the funds for investment opportunities related to what it labels the “Three Ds” – digitalization, decarbonization, and deglobalization.
The fund dwarfed even the massive $20 billion obtained by the firm for its fourth fund in 2020, receiving 40% more capital from LPs.
Brookfield stated that 40% of the fund’s capital has already been committed in six investments, including renewable, transportation, data center, and telecom tower assets.
During the recent high interest rate and high inflation climate, the asset class has shown itself to be a relative haven for alternative investors.
Brookfield’s fund isn’t the only massive infrastructure fund in the works right now; GIP is aiming for $25 billion for its latest vehicle.
KKR raised $17 billion for its global infrastructure fund last year, while Blackstone announced in October that it had met its $40 billion objective for its infrastructure unit set in 2017 — with a target now on $100 billion.
