Blue Owl Capital, Voya Financial Partner to Bolster Private Markets Options
Blue Owl Capital has partnered with Voya Financial to unveil private markets investment options for defined contribution retirement plans. The joint effort will allow both firms to concentrate on the development of collective investment trusts within DC plans and provide access to Blue Owl’s private market initiatives.
The collective investment trusts will be available through adviser-managed accounts on Voya’s retirement platform and target-date solutions, which will be managed by Voya Investment Management.
The partnership will grant retirement plan participants access to a variety of investment opportunities to build “resilient” portfolios and optimize retirement strategies.
Blue Owl Capital and Voya Financial are expected to offer private markets strategies in “vehicles tailored for defined contribution retirement plans, addressing the growing demand for alternative investment solutions within retirement portfolios,” the company said.
In part of the partnership, Blue Owl and Voya Investment Management aim to invest in other opportunities that will allow both firms to enhance their institutional insurance asset management offerings by incorporating Voya’s fixed income capabilities and Blue Owl’s private credit abilities.
“This collaboration with Voya is a natural extension of our mission, laying the foundation for future initiatives within the retirement channel,” Doug Ostrover and Marc Lipschultz, co-CEOs of Blue Owl Capital, said. “Since our founding, Blue Owl’s investment strategies have focused on income generation and downside protection—objectives that align closely with the needs of retirement plan participants. The retirement landscape is expanding, and we see providing plan participants access to private markets assets as a way to build more resilient investment portfolios and pursue stronger long-term returns.”
Blue Owl Capital manages about $273 billion in assets as of March 31, serving more than 150,000 financial experts worldwide. Voya Financial manages about $630 billion in defined contribution assets on its retirement platform, the firms said.
