Black Opal Ventures Raises $58M for Debut Healthtech Fund
Black Opal Ventures (BOV), a New York-based women-led tech venture capital firm co-founded by managing directors Dr. Tara Bishop and Eileen Tanghal, announced their debut health-tech fund with $58 million.
Since its first closing in February 2022, the fund has continued to raise capital, including investments from Eli Lilly, Bank of America and Atlantic Health System Venture Studio, among others.
The core focus of Black Opal Ventures is on early-stage startups that mix healthcare and technology to address significant difficulties such as unmanaged diseases, medical errors, and health disparities. BOV hopes to affect the future landscape of healthcare by investing in firms that can improve healthcare access, quality, and cost.
“We are identifying start-ups that we believe will make a difference in healthcare, and our fund is giving them the boost they need to continue their great work. We are confident they can change the industry for the better,” explained Bishop.
The fund has invested in nine companies so far, including Intellihealth, Conceivable Life Sciences, Optellum, Hyro, Empatica, TigerGraph and Blaze.tech.
