ArcLight Pledges $1B to Launch Power-Grid Transmission Company
ArcLight Capital Partners has committed $1 billion of equity from its funds to launch Anchor Point Transmission, an independent company seeking to develop, finance, own and operate high-voltage power infrastructure across the United States.
Anchor Point plans to partner with utilities on transmission projects needed to accommodate rising electricity demand from data centers, domestic manufacturing and electrification. ArcLight did not disclose specific projects, customers or a deployment timetable for the committed capital.
The launch comes as power demand accelerates after years of relatively limited growth. Data centers could account for as much as 9% of U.S. electricity generation by 2030, up from about 4% in 2023, according to an estimate cited by the Department of Energy.
“Utilities face a record need for transmission investment while managing affordability, reliability and increasingly complex planning needs,” Anchor Point President Justin Campbell said.
ArcLight appointed former American Electric Power executive Michael Deggendorf as executive chairman. Campbell previously held leadership roles at GridLiance, Tallgrass Energy and Edison Transmission.
Anchor Point’s leadership team has developed or originated more than $4 billion of transmission projects and constructed over 1,500 miles of power lines, according to ArcLight.
Founded in 2001, ArcLight said it has owned, controlled or operated more than 70 gigawatts of assets and 48,000 miles of electric and gas transmission and storage infrastructure representing over $90 billion in enterprise value.
The launch follows DigitalBridge Group’s May agreement to acquire ArcLight for as much as $1.05 billion. The transaction includes $650 million in upfront consideration and up to $400 million tied to future performance, connecting DigitalBridge’s data-center platform with ArcLight’s power and energy infrastructure capabilities.
