ArcLight Launches New Unit to Manage Power Infra Assets

Infrastructure investor ArcLight Capital Partners has formed a new business, Alpha Generation (AlphaGen), to manage its 13,000-megawatt power infrastructure portfolio, worth nearly $2 billion in annual revenue.

AlphaGen will be in charge of the power infrastructure assets and portfolio of ArcLight’s funds’ strategic, commercial, and operational activities. It is one of the largest in the country and provides critical supply to key demand centers such as New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

“ArcLight is excited to announce this strategic partnership as part of our continued value-added investment approach and strategy, which invests across the electrification infrastructure value chain including renewables, battery storage, and other transition infrastructure, said Angelo Acconcia, partner at ArcLight.

Curt Morgan, who is currently a senior advisor to ArcLight, has been named CEO and chairman of AlphaGen, effective May 1. He previously served as CEO of integrated retail electricity and power generation company Vistra.

Mark Sudbey will be interim CEO until Morgan takes over. Sudbey is the current CEO of Generation Bridge and previous CEO of Eastern Generation, both of which are ArcLight portfolio companies.

Boston-based ArcLight recently acquired Duke Energy’s commercial distributed generation portfolio, which includes REC Solar’s operating assets, development pipeline, and O&M portfolio, as well as distributed fuel cell projects managed by Bloom Energy.
