Altruist Hires Former Pixar, Blend Executive as CFO

Registered investor advisor (RIA) custodian startup Altruist hired former Pixar Animation Studios and Blend Labs executive Marc Greenberg CFO.

Greenberg’s appointment fills a vacancy left by Grace Mellis, who was hired in 2021 amid the firm’s $50 million Series B funding round. Mellis departed Altruist in June of 2022.

Prior to joining Los Angeles based Altruist, Greenberg spent 16 years in finance and strategy leadership at Pixar, and most recently served as CFO of Blend Labs, a fintech that banks use to build consumer-facing digital products. During his tenure, he led Blend’s $360 million initial public offering in 2021.

“As we scale, it’s essential that we’re assembling a leadership team with the powerful combination of day-to-day operational excellence and the ability to think in decades,” Jason Wenk, founder and CEO of Altruist, said in a statement. “Marc fits that bill perfectly.”

The hire comes at a time of rapid growth for Altruist. The company tripled its assets and achieved 1,700% year-over-year growth in 2022. In March, it severed its relationship with Apex Fintech Solutions to launch its own custody and clearing platform and brought 1,600 RIAs aboard by acquiring Shareholders Services Group.

In April, the company announced a $112 million funding round, bringing its total raise to $290 million.

Altruist claims it is on track to be profitable “in the coming months.”
