Saxum Debuts with $435M Oil and Gas Fund

Saxum Energy Partners, the oil and gas investor founded by three industry veterans last year, has announced the final closing of its first fund, Saxum Energy I LP, at its hard cap of $435 million in equity commitments.

The Dallas-based firm also revealed it had fully invested the fund thanks to the recent acquisition of a Permian Basin mineral position from Luxe Minerals, as well as previous acquisitions in the Haynesville Shale.

Saxum was co-founded by Cole Robertson, a former senior executive at energy-focused family office BP Capital, who helped launch and manage its BP Energy Partners private equity fund.

He is joined at Saxum by fellow founders Jim Muthrie and Josh Rosinski, both formerly executive managers at operating oil and gas companies and investment vehicles.

Launched in 2022, Saxum’s portfolio is comprised primarily of mineral interests in the Permian Basin, under operators such as ExxonMobil, Pioneer, Diamondback, Occidental, ConocoPhillips, Endeavor and Permian Resources, and in the Haynesville, under Southwestern, Comstock, Chesapeake and Aethon.

“The (Fund’s) portfolio achieves our goal of delivering strong yield to our partners through current free cash flow and continued growth from our assets in the core of the top oil and gas plays in the continental US,” said the managing partners.
