Anthropic Rolls Out Personal Finance Tool in Claude
Anthropic is rolling out a personal finance tool for its Claude AI assistant, the company said Thursday. The feature is available in beta this week to U.S. subscribers on its Pro, Max and Ultra plans.
Personal Finance in Claude connects to bank accounts a user chooses, so the user can ask questions about their balances and how money flows in and out. The tool is read-only: it can’t move, manage or invest a user’s money.
Anthropic said the feature is designed to help people understand their finances, not to provide investment advice. The company also cautioned users to check its answers.
“Claude can make mistakes in its answers, so ask which transactions are behind a number, and check important figures with your bank,” Anthropic said in a blog post.
Users connect accounts by signing into their bank through Plaid, the service that links apps to financial institutions. In that step, they accept terms and approve Claude’s read-only access, so Claude never sees or asks for bank passwords. Anthropic said conversations with Claude aren’t used to train its models. Users can unlink accounts at any time, which ends Claude’s access to the data.
The launch follows months of anticipation. Testers spotted an early version of the feature in Claude’s iOS app in September under the name “Claude Money.”
The move puts Anthropic in more direct competition with OpenAI. In May, OpenAI launched a Plaid-powered personal finance preview in ChatGPT for U.S. Pro subscribers, saying more than 200 million people ask ChatGPT finance questions each month. Perplexity added a similar Plaid integration around the same time.
