OrbiMed Raises $3B for Life Sciences, Asia Healthcare Funds

OrbiMed has raised approximately $3 billion across two private equity funds targeting healthcare companies in the United States, Europe and Asia, expanding its investment capacity across biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics and tech-enabled healthcare services.

OrbiMed Private Investments X secured more than $1.9 billion for life sciences venture capital investments in the U.S. and Europe. OrbiMed Asia Partners VI raised more than $1 billion for healthcare growth equity and venture capital investments across Asia.

The Asia vehicle represents a significant increase from its $751 million predecessor. Private Investments X is modestly larger than Fund IX, which raised approximately $1.86 billion. Both predecessor funds were announced in 2023.

The latest commitments came from medical institutions, university endowments, foundations, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and family offices. OrbiMed said longstanding investors continued to support its fundraising.

“There has never been a more exciting time to invest in life sciences innovation,” said Carl Gordon, an OrbiMed managing partner.

Gordon identified artificial intelligence, new therapeutic approaches and China’s emergence as a biotechnology development center as factors expanding opportunities to create treatments and build healthcare companies.

The fundraising adds to a platform managing more than $21 billion across private equity, public equity and royalty and credit strategies. OrbiMed invests in businesses ranging from startups to multinational corporations, combining financing with support in company formation, strategy, operations and finance.

The new equity funds follow OrbiMed’s August 2025 announcement of $1.86 billion for Royalty and Credit Opportunities Fund V, a separate strategy providing credit and royalty-based financing to growth-oriented healthcare companies.
