Prime Group, Wunder Launch Self-Storage Solar Program

Commercial solar provider Wunder and private equity real estate manager Prime Group Holdings LLC have completed initial interconnection and commenced power generation for the first phase of a national self-storage solar deployment initiative, the companies announced today.

The program aims to transform underutilized rooftop real estate across Prime Group’s national Prime Storage portfolio into clean energy assets. Prime Group directly owns the solar energy systems, while Wunder provides ongoing asset and operational management. Initial solar installations have gone live across properties in Rhode Island, Connecticut, California, and Maryland.

By generating on-site renewable power, Prime Group expects the initiative to reduce operating expenses for its storage facilities while providing lower energy costs for participating local households through community solar arrangements.

“We believe on-site energy infrastructure has emerged as a compelling value creation strategy,” said Robert J. Moser, founder, principal, and chief executive officer of Prime Group. “We are focused on initiatives that we believe can enhance asset performance and generate incremental income over time.”

Prime Group operates a commercial self-storage footprint exceeding 330 properties. Under the joint deployment plan with Wunder, more than 100 individual solar projects are currently under development across nine states, representing over 38 megawatts of aggregate solar capacity.

“For self-storage operators, solar can present an opportunity to accelerate clean energy adoption while potentially reducing operating expenses,” added Dave Riess, chief executive officer of Wunder.
