Carson Group Draws $400M Wealth Firm from Northwestern Mutual

Carson Group has added an Atlanta-based financial advisory team, further expanding its footprint across the market.

Yari Capital, which was established in 1995, oversees $405 million in assets under management and is led by founder and senior wealth advisor Kurt Mattson.

The firm has joined Carson’s independent advisor channel and was previously affiliated with Northwestern Mutual.

Yari Capital provides financial planning, investment management, retirement planning, tax services, risk management, and wealth management services to high-net-worth clients, including executives, physicians, attorneys, and business owners, according to the firm’s page on Northwestern Mutual’s website.

The team also includes director of Financial Planning Olivia Payne, alongside three support members, Carson stated.

“As our firm continued to grow, I wanted an independent partner that would allow us to stay true to that philosophy while giving us access to best-in-class technology, advanced planning expertise and a community of advisors committed to putting clients first,” Mattson said.

Mattson stated that he launched his practice because he wanted to focus on providing financial advice that puts “clients’ goals first, helping them navigate everything from cash flow and taxes to retirement, investment management, and estate planning through personalized, goal-based strategies.”

Mattson’s recruitment at Carson comes shortly after the firm added wealth management executive Kevin Peterson as senior vice president of business development for its independent channel. Prior to joining Carson, Peterson served as SVP of Sales at Osaic, where he led the firm’s recruiting organization.

Earlier this month, Carson added New Hampshire-based Doyle and Loughman Wealth Management, which manages roughly $1.76 billion in advisory and brokerage assets.

Omaha, NE-based Carson Group oversees more than $62 billion in assets for more than 60,000 families across 50 Carson Wealth offices.
