Anthropic, Macquarie and GIC Form Data Center Infrastructure Platform
Anthropic, Macquarie Asset Management and GIC have formed Theseus Infrastructure, a platform designed to develop, operate and lease large-scale data center infrastructure to the artificial intelligence company.
The partners plan to identify and develop new sites with Anthropic serving as the anchor tenant under long-term lease agreements. The platform will initially focus on projects in the United States.
Funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management and Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC will own Theseus and provide most of the equity required for each development. Anthropic’s long-term commitments are intended to give the platform predictable demand as it finances and builds new capacity.
Anthropic said it will absorb electricity price increases that residential consumers might otherwise face because of the new facilities. The provision aligns with commitments the company announced earlier this year as concerns grow about the effects of data center expansion on utility bills and regional electric grids.
The companies did not disclose the platform’s targeted investment size, development pipeline, expected power capacity or timetable for beginning construction. They also did not identify potential markets beyond the initial U.S. focus.
