SummitIG Acquires Blue Owl’s Dark Fiber & Infrastructure
SummitIG has acquired Dark Fiber and Infrastructure LLC (DF&I) from funds managed by Blue Owl Capital, expanding its dark fiber network across the Mid-Atlantic. SummitIG has been majority owned by digital infrastructure investment firm SDC Capital Partners since 2019.
The acquisition adds nearly 200 miles of conduit and dark fiber assets to SummitIG’s existing network of more than 1,100 miles in Virginia. The combined platform also extends approximately 60 miles into Maryland, connecting to Baltimore.
The expanded network is designed to provide hyperscale cloud providers, telecommunications carriers and enterprise customers with greater route diversity, network density and capacity to support next-generation AI workloads and data center connectivity.
“As a leading infrastructure provider of dense, purpose-built dark fiber networks, SummitIG has established a strong track record of execution, and this acquisition represents a significant milestone in our strategy to expand and strengthen our platform in the markets that matter most to our customers,” said Sunny Kumar, chief executive officer of SummitIG.
The transaction follows a period of rapid expansion for SummitIG, including growth across five core U.S. markets and the recent launch of SierraIG, a joint venture extending the company’s digital infrastructure platform into Mexico.
Blue Owl said the sale marks the successful completion of a six-year investment during which DF&I’s network footprint expanded sixfold.
“As global demand for cloud computing and next-generation infrastructure accelerates, specialized digital infrastructure assets have never been more critical,” said Chris Jensen, managing director of Digital Infrastructure at Blue Owl.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
