Opto Investments Closes AI-Focused Venture Fund for RIAs, Family Offices
Opto Investments has closed an AI-focused venture fund built for registered investment advisors and family offices seeking access to early-stage artificial intelligence infrastructure and tooling, the firm said.
The New York-based firm did not disclose the fund size but said the vehicle takes a multi-strategy approach reflecting its view that the most durable AI opportunities will come from foundational technologies, including infrastructure, developer tools and specialized frameworks, rather than only headline consumer applications.
“Opto sees opportunity in active, selective investing that separates signal from noise,” said Matt Malone, head of investment management at Opto Investments. “We built our AI Fund to give our partner RIAs’ clients exposure to the companies actually putting AI to work. These RIAs came to us seeking a smarter way to access AI—not just the largest, high-valuation names everyone already knows.”
Direct and co-investments in the fund include xAI, an artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk; Epirus, a defense technology firm; ExoWatt, a renewable energy company; and Higgsfield, a generative AI studio.
The fund also invests in other venture managers, with holdings that include Fusion Fund IV, which backs early-stage companies with technical or data advantages; Neo Fund 4.0, which invests in technical founders at the earliest stages; and Zero Prime Ventures Fund II, focused on early-stage enterprise startups.
The fund is designed to help advisory firms offer clients a more diversified, venture-style exposure to AI’s infrastructure and application layers, rather than relying solely on public-market mega-cap names tied to the theme.
