Hamilton Lane announced the final close of its inaugural Venture Access Fund (VAF), raising $615.3 million, surpassing its $500 million target.

Hamilton Lane Launches US Evergreen Private Secondary Fund

Hamilton Lane has introduced the Hamilton Lane Private Secondary Fund (HLPSF), an evergreen investment vehicle offered on an ongoing basis. The fund is offered to U.S. accredited investors, including eligible high-net-worth individuals and their financial advisors with an investment minimum as low as $25,000.

The Fund’s approach centers on top-tier middle-market buyout funds and assets with strong potential for near-term payouts, leveraging Hamilton Lane’s capital resources to adapt across various secondary transaction types. This flexibility positions the fund to pursue both attractive entry discounts and sustained long-term growth.

HLPSF aims to deliver solid risk-adjusted returns with robust downside protection via a portfolio of what the firm considers high-caliber companies and assets, spread across various sponsors, strategies, industries, vintage years, and regions.

The fund offers the possibility of quarterly liquidity and instant exposure to a portfolio of seasoned private equity investments, which are seen as primed for growth. It emphasizes [partially to fully funded] secondary investments that provide clear visibility and strong liquidity characteristics, aiming to generate appealing returns while keeping risk in check.

“This part of the market offers a number of unique benefits to investors, especially those newer to the private markets, including knowledge of underlying assets, an increased pace of capital deployment and J-curve mitigation,” said Ryan Cooney, managing director on the secondary investment team.

The Hamilton Lane Private Secondary Fund builds on the firm’s extensive secondaries platform, which has been in development for over 24 years. The platform encompasses closed-end funds and separately managed accounts (SMAs), amounting to $24.1 billion in assets under management and supervision as of December 31, 2024.

Conshohocken, PA-based Hamilton Lane had $956 billion in assets under management and supervision, composed of nearly $135 billion in discretionary assets and over $821 billion in non-discretionary assets as of December 31, 2024.
