Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Invests in Torch Clean Energy
Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners (MSIP) has partnered with Torch Clean Energy, a developer specializing in utility-scale solar and storage projects, to significantly enhance and expand Torch’s platform. With MSIP’s strategic investment, Torch will evolve from a development-focused entity into a comprehensive clean power platform.
The transformation will enable Torch to integrate capabilities spanning development, construction, and asset management, creating a vertically integrated clean energy provider.
Since its inception, Torch has been active in originating, developing, and selling over 1.2 gigawatts of renewable power assets in its key markets. The company’s projects have been distributed across the U.S., including significant efforts in the Mid-Atlantic region, such as Virginia, and the desert Southwest.
MSIP, which oversees $17 billion in assets, will support the company’s build-out of construction and operations management, procurement and project finance capabilities, leveraging MSIP’s network and platform resources.
“We believe Torch is well-positioned to benefit from the industry tailwinds of electrification and data center demand through its differentiated strategy of siting high-value contracted projects in growing markets,” said Chris Ortega, head of Americas for MSIP.
Latham & Watkins LLP served as legal counsel for Torch Clean Energy, with KeyBanc Capital Markets serving as financial advisor. Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP served as legal counsel for MSIP, with Santander serving as financial advisor.
