LMP Announces Another Investment in Financial Services Firm
Financial services-focused private equity firm Lovell Minnick Partners (LMP) made an undisclosed strategic investment in Cohen & Company, marking the first institutional capital investment for the Cleveland based accounting firm.
The firm focuses on the mutual fund, private equity, alternative investment and real estate industries, while also serving closely held businesses, family offices and high-net-worth individuals.
The investment is expected to close on December 31, at which point Cohen & Company will also substantially increase the number of employee equity holders. “We are extremely proud to reward our exceptional team for the successes that have brought us to this point,” said CEO Chris Bellamy.
“The increase in equity holders, combined with substantial reserves for future equity-based incentives, will further strengthen alignment as we work together to achieve our strategic goals,” he added.
Following the close of the transaction, Cohen & Company will operate in an alternative practice structure. Cohen & Company, Ltd. will provide attest services and will be led by Vince Curttright. Cohen & Co Advisory, LLC will provide business tax, advisory and other non-attest services, and will be led by Bellamy. The two entities will both use Cohen & Co as their brand name.
For LMP, the Cohen & Company investment comes on the heels of another strategic investment in Americana Partners, LLC, an independent wealth management firm with over $8.5 billion in assets, announced last week.
Founded in 1977, Cohen & Company has more than 800 employees across the U.S. and 12 offices in Illinois, Ohio, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
