Brookfield to Invest $1.1B in Sustainable Aviation Fuel Provider
Brookfield Asset Management has agreed to invest up to $1.1 billion in Infinium, a low carbon electrofuels (eFuels) provider, to accelerate the company’s eFuels platform and its production of synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF).
The Canadian asset manager has agreed to invest more than $200 million in Infinium and its Project Roadrunner in West Texas, as well as up to $850 million to assist other Infinium eFuels projects throughout the world.
Brookfield’s first direct investment in sustainable aviation fuel will come from the $15 billion decarbonization-focused Brookfield Global Transition Fund (BGTF I). Brookfield will also take the lead in Infinium’s Series C Preferred Stock issuance.
“Our investment is structured to provide the capital Infinium needs to accelerate the production of sustainable aviation fuels to meet the growing demand from corporate customers while generating attractive risk-adjusted returns for Brookfield,” said Jehangir Vevaina, managing partner at Brookfield.
Infinium, founded in 2020, specializes in the creation of next-generation SAF products using a patented method that blends water, waste carbon dioxide, and renewable energy.
In November 2023, the company announced it had received funding from Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy and had secured American Airlines as an offtaker. Its other investors include Amazon.com Inc’s Climate Pledge Fund, NextEra Energy Resources LLC, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
