
Balyasny Hires for Global Quant Business
Balyasny Asset Management has hired Francine Fang from rival Point72 Asset Management as global head of systematic, where she will oversee the $20 billion global multi-strategy hedge fund firm’s expansion into quantitative investing.
Fang was previously deputy head of investments at Cubist Systematic Strategies, a Point72 business, where she worked for eight years. She specializes in quantitative trading methods, risk, and infrastructure.
She was involved in all parts of the quantitative business, including portfolio manager supervision, team hiring, risk management, and capital allocation.
Before that, Fang was head of the options market making group at GETCO/Knight Capital Group, and earlier was managing director and head of liquidity provision, equities at J.P. Morgan. She started her career at UBS on the convertible bonds trading desk and eventually became the global head of UBS’s electronic market-making unit.
Dmitry Balyasny founded the Chicago-based business in 2001 with an initial concentration on long/short equity investing. Today, the firm’s multi-strategy, multi-PM approach includes long/short equity, global macro, equity arbitrage, commodities, and growth equity.
