Starwood Capital to Propel $8B Data Center Venture with New Platform

Starwood Capital Group, a private real estate investment firm, announced the launch of Starwood Digital Ventures, a platform dedicated to the firm’s lobal growth into data centers.

Starwood Capital has committed about $8 billion in data center development, totaling 1.5 gigawatts in various stages of development over the past five years, making it one of the largest privately held data center developers in the U.S. and Europe.

Starwood Digital Ventures will use the funds from various investment vehicles to continue developing its pipeline and partner with data center operators.

Starwood Capital also announced it has entered a “strategic alliance” with Worldwide Mission Critical, a consulting firm that helps clients with the design and development of data center projects.

“We are incredibly excited about the launch of Starwood Digital, which will provide us with additional opportunities to grow our data center portfolio amidst strong industry tailwinds,” said Barry Sternlicht, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital. “With the strong demand for data center services in the U.S. and growing needs to support end uses such as artificial intelligence, we see continued opportunity to invest in this growing sector.”

Starwood Capital Group has raised over $75 billion since inception in 1991, and currently has about $115 billion of assets under management.
