Oakeson Steiner Takes $1.2B Practice to Carson Group

Oakeson Steiner Wealth & Retirement, a $1.2 billion Nebraska-based retirement and financial advisory firm, has switched RIAs to Carson Group, joining a network of over 140 advisory firms.

The firm was previously part of Resources Investment Advisors, a network of advisors acquired by OneDigital in 2020.

Founded in 1994 by Doug Oakeson and Jack Steiner, the firm is led by president and wealth advisor, Josh Yost.

Yost and 13 wealth advisors and client service personnel will relocate to Carson, which has a global network of 9,000 financial experts. Yost will continue to be the sole owner of the company and will oversee day-to-day operations.

Oakeson Steiner was looking for a partner who could provide a “robust technology platform” as well as marketing and compliance support, allowing its advisors to “focus more on clients.”

“Carson Group aligns perfectly with our goal of providing enhanced services through cutting-edge technology and resources,” Yost said.

The deal expands Omaha, NE-based Carson Group’s drive into retirement plan advice as well as asset management. In September, the Bain Capital-backed firm bought $300 million FAI Wealth Management, a Columbia, MD-based advisory firm.

In June, the firm announced an equity partnership with Northwest Capital Management (NWCM), a Portland, OR-based retirement and investment advisory firm with more than $5 billion in client assets, making it Carson’s largest deal to date.

Carson Group currently manages $31 billion in assets and serves more than 48,000 families.
